Wike fires at Bala Mohammed, describes Bauchi governor as 'inconsistent'

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has publicly accused Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of being politically inconsistent, particularly regarding his stance on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike made these allegations while inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, specifically the Jahi-Gwarimpa bridge and the Airport Expressway to Kuje. He stated that Mohammed approached him ahead of the recently concluded PDP national convention, requesting that Wike produce the party's National Secretary, a request he declined.

Allegations of Inconsistency

The FCT Minister further alleged that in 2022, Governor Mohammed had requested Wike's support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, then the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 election. Wike claimed Mohammed subsequently backtracked on this support within days.

Wike asserted that such shifting positions demonstrated Mohammed's unstable character, contrasting it with his own consistent stance. "It’s very embarrassing. He (Bala Mohammed) says one thing in the morning; in the afternoon, he says a different thing," Wike stated. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Abuja projects and noted their planned commissioning to mark President Tinubu's third year in office.

Wike's Projects and Response to Criticism

Wike also dismissed Mohammed's recent claim that Wike was "planted" to undermine the PDP, labeling it "embarrassing, baseless and a product of an inconsistent mindset." He mocked Mohammed's demand for the PDP National Secretary position for his faction, describing him as a "conquered person" negotiating from a position of weakness.

"You’re already conquered; you lost. You’re talking from a weak point, and you want to demand Secretary? That is not done," Wike declared. He highlighted the recent PDP convention as silencing critics who predicted the party's collapse, affirming the PDP's vitality despite minor issues.

Wike urged Nigerians to be wary of politicians who shift alliances, reaffirming his commitment to remain in the PDP while continuing to support President Tinubu. "I have made it clear: I will not leave the PDP, but I will continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That has always been my position since 2022," he stated, contrasting his consistency with Mohammed's perceived volatility.

Wike's comments come amidst ongoing political tensions, including Mohammed's previous accusations against the Federal Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and his own signals of potential defection to the All Democrats Congress (ADC).
